Forward - From the Heartland of Carolina

This is a continuing story of the journey Forward shared by 2 people, Lynne and Tom. Both love to LIVE life to it's fullest, which currently means spending lots of time outdoors, working on various projects from gardens to patios, flowers to vegetables, sunrises and sunsets, birds and woodland critters, and spending time with family. Don't forget to check the monthly archives, and please feel free to leave us a comment so we know you stopped by.

It has been a while

since I have blogged so guess I had better catch everyone up to date. Tom has pretty much documented our Christmas in pictures - I don't know what I can add to make that any better other than for me personally it was so very wonderful to enjoy every aspect of the holidays after several years of just trying to get through the season. God has really blessed us with a truely wonderful life together.

Many of you already know that the day after Christmas we had to take Mom to the hospital. She was diagnosed with pneumonia and spent 5 days there. We brought her home New Years Eve and it has been a steady while at times very slow healing process but she is getting stronger everyday. She was sent home with oxygen 24/7 and a nebulizer 3 times a day but we have been able to discontinue the nebulizer and cut back her oxygen from 3 liters to 2 liters. She is not thrilled about the restrictivness of the oxygen but does understand that it helps her to breath so much better. She has 50ft of tubing and can get around to most places in the house even outside on the deck on the nice warm days which we have been blessed with this winter. We are just so thrilled with each day that we have with her - while she may be 90 she still has that sparkle and determination to get well and active again. She is definitely an inspiration.

As for me - well I have been busy with my new found way of getting that early start on gardening called Wintersowing (also feeds my gardening withdrawal in the winter - lol) and have even got Tom doing it too. The whole concept is to start the seeds of perennials, hardy annuals and veggies outside in the winter in little mini greenhouses - milkjugs, soda bottles, ect and let nature take its course with the germinating process. It is so much fun to go out each day and check on the little babies and see what has germinated. So far we have over 200 containers of plants sown with well over 50% coming up already. The cold and freezing weather doesn't hurt them - in fact makes the plants stronger. We will get some pictures up of the process and then hopefully have just beautiful gardens in the summer with more pictures.

The grandsons are doing great in school with the two older ones making honor roll and John doing great in Kindergarten. Andrew the middle grandson was in his first pinewood derby and had 2- 4ths, 2- 3rds and a 2nd. His car was painted camaflodge and a big hit with the other boys. I think that meant more to him than the placements. Tom helped him with cutting the body style but Andrew did just about everything else. Tom is really getting into this 'grandaddy' routine. Celeste is a pure joy and growing so fast. She is turning over by herself and smiles all the time. We love the time that we can get her away from Mommy and Daddy and have her to ourselves. Her greatgrandma just lights up when she sees her and that puts a smile on all our faces.

Thank you all who stop by and leave us messages - we enjoy reading them. As you can see - life continues to be wonderful here in the 'heartland'....
