Fall is in the air........
There is a crispness to the days and evenings. I love this time of the year with all the fall colors and the scenery changing every day. There was a time when I hated to see fall come and dreaded the long cold winter but living here in North Carolina has changed all that. While we will have some cold days for the most part our winters are very easy and we can get out almost every day and enjoy the yard and gardens. Each year I learn more and more how to work the weather to our favor and have something in bloom all the time. Last year was even more fun with the discovery of wintersowing which kept both Tom and I busy all winter caring for our little seedlings. The fall/winter veggie garden is planted, I bought mums today and will get my violas later this week. The early camellias are budded full to put on a show in November and December. I have done up fall and winter window boxes for the front porch and got my fall decorations up outside. I don't do a Halloween theme but rather a harvest theme which will stay up till Thanksgiving weekend when Christmas gets pulled out. We are not doing alot of seasonal decorating inside this year as we are in the midst of redecorating/remodeling the inside of the house. Master bath is done and master bedroom just needs the trimwork put up then we start the larger kitchen/dining and family room area. Tom of course will be along in a couple of days with before and after pictures.
This week was the week that Tom and I were suppose to go away and visit with his sisters Marge in VA and Kathy up on Long Island but that trip had to be cancelled for a couple of reasons. Tracey was going to come down and stay with Mom while we were gone but sadly her SIL (Kenny's sister) passed away suddenly early last week. Please keep the family in your prayers. She was only 47 - way too young to be taken away but as in so many deaths we just have to trust that God has his reasons. I was going to have to cancel the trip anyway because I came down with a really good case of the shingles and have been existing on virtually no sleep - riding 6 hours in the car at a time would not have been pleasant. Not only was the trip cancelled but I also had to miss not one but TWO grandkidlins birthday parties - John was 6 on the 29th and Celeste turned that magic age of one October 1st. HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you both. We are going to plan a belated party closer to Jenn's birthday near the end of the month. The shingles are subsiding but the nerve pain is still there not sure how long that will last. Other than that we are all doing well. Mom has been working on some of her little craft items and reading alot and sleeping alot but all in all doing OK.
Thank you all who stop by and as fall gets her firm grip on us all and paints a pretty picture for all to enjoy my prayer for all of you is that you find you own little piece of heaven as Tom and I have here in the 'Heartland'

So sorry to hear of your health problems Lynne. Hang in there! Things will get better. There are so nifty new medicines for nerve pain these days. I just started taking one of those myself, and it seems to help some. Enjoy the fall and looking forward to your posts of your "winter" gardening with the new seedlings.
Lynne and Tom,
It is always so wonderful to come to your site. If I am feeling a little down, this place is always a reminder of how wonderful life can be. You have the same ups and downs in life as others, but you have found and created a piece of heaven here on earth that others can pull joy from. For that, I thank you both.
