Forward - From the Heartland of Carolina

This is a continuing story of the journey Forward shared by 2 people, Lynne and Tom. Both love to LIVE life to it's fullest, which currently means spending lots of time outdoors, working on various projects from gardens to patios, flowers to vegetables, sunrises and sunsets, birds and woodland critters, and spending time with family. Don't forget to check the monthly archives, and please feel free to leave us a comment so we know you stopped by.

The Christmas Misfits

Every year, as Lynne is finishing up her decorating, it has become a tradition that I get to use whatever leftover lights and ornaments there are to decorate with. Yes, I'm aware that it's bad grammar to end a sentence with 'with'. It's the Holidays, though, and I'm sure everyone is forgiving, in the spirit of the season, even though I just did it twice.

We'll be back with some more serious posts in the coming days, but wanted to share what the Misfits were this year. In this first picture, there's some rather old icicle lights, and a string of lantern lights, and an old string of fancy C-6 (?) clear crystal-like bulbs. We've had to move our 6' trees around some from their previous locations, because where two of them were before, there are now corner cabinets, so one of those trees somehow wandered into my 'space'.

This next one is an older four foot tree, that along with the tree in the next picture, was looking very lonely up in the garage attic. I instituted a new ordinance in this household, with Lynne's later approval, of "No Tree Left Behind", so these two trees also found a way in to my 'space'.

You may notice some strands of purple beads on this tree. Not your usual Christmas color, for sure. Lynne needed the vase they were in, however, for an arrangement, so they ended up on this misfit tree as garland. However, those are no ordinary purple beads, in necklace form. Those were my 'award' last Spring, at our "Relay For Life", for being a 30 year Cancer Survivor. Interestingly, we also had 12 matching ornaments of almost the same color purple. Misfits on any other tree in the house, but a perfect fit on this Misfit tree.

This last tree holds the 'best of the rest'. Ornaments that, this year, just didn't have a home. However, because of "No Tree Left Behind", these pieces of glass, plastic, and glittered snowflakes now adorn their own tree. Rudolph and his Misfit friends would be so proud of this display.

Finally, our littlest misfit cat Skittles found her way into the branches of the 6' tree. She claims she was forced up there by her much larger buddy Shadow. I think it was more along the lines of "Hey Skittles, I DARE you to climb up into that tree". The jury is still out on this one. What do you think? Does she look innocent?

We'll be back again real soon, and as we close in on Christmas, we wish all of you the very best during this special time of year. God Bless...

Tom and Lynne.
